1802<1C> S-234, B-14, High R.3--Corroded--NCS. VF Details. VG7 EAC. The terminal die state with the obverse rim broken above BERT. The reverse has die chips on the lower edge of the right stem end. An unknown source nicknamed this late die state the "Dripping Paint" variety, from the pattern of the rim break. This sounds very much like a name that might have come from the late C. Douglas Smith, certainly a colorful figure in the field of early large cents. Rather heavily corroded dark green surfaces, tending toward ebony in appearance.
Ex: John A. Schreuder (1/1968). Envelope Included.
