1802 1C --Double Struck, 15% Off Center, Uniface Revers
1802 1C --Double Struck, 15% Off Center, Uniface Reverse--VF30 NGC. S-227, B-5, R.2. The dies are clashed beneath Liberty's chin and under the hair ribbon, which allows nearly certain attribution despite the absence of LIBERTY and the reverse design. Struck broadly off center toward 1:30, and an additional fed planchet (not included) blocked the reverse die. Perhaps the other piece, with an off center reverse and a blank obverse, still exists somewhere, waiting to be paired with the present piece. Double struck, confirmed by a faint additional line of denticles. Sharp for the VF30 level although the unstruck portion of the obverse has a few thin marks. Apparently the piece referred to in Breen's Cent Encyclopedia under B-5: "An example was seen at the 1989 EAC convention with the obverse off center and a reverse indent: another blank underlay this at striking. Interesting and unusual." EAC 15.

Shipping: Coins & Currency (view shipping information)
