1802 1C 1/000 AU50 PCGS. S-228, R.2. The only blundered fraction variety among 1802 die pairings and a popular issue as such. The surfaces are a deep chestnut-brown color with an attractive glossy finish, accompanied by an essentially mark-free appearance. This unusually high grade example appears to have originated from an early state of the dies as there are no singularly mentionable flaws or cracks. About 15 degrees of clockwise die rotation is also noted. While researching the current population data on the S-228 variety, this is the single AU50 thus far certified by PCGS, and just three pieces are graded finer (11/07). Certainly a Condition Census example of this interesting variation.
