1802/1 $5 MS63 PCGS. B. 2-H and I, Miller-54, R.4. The 1802/1, along with the 1800, is the most frequently encountered Capped Bust Half Eagle in grades up to and including MS63. This variety is identifiable by the long spine on the reverse that runs from a leaf into the R in AMERICA. Struck from an intermediate-late die state as evidenced by the lack of die clashing, the regrinding and strengthening of the reverse die, and one (but not two) die cracks through (UNIT)ED on the reverse. This is an especially attractive and well produced coin. The surfaces are bright and lustrous, undoubtedly much of which is attributable to the regrinding of the reverse die. There are no obvious abrasions on either side, which is somewhat unusual considering the grade is MS63 not MS65. Obviously hand-selected and one of the finest MS63 coins known of this variety. From the Ashland City Collection. Important notice: We expect to be auctioning lots at the rate of 200-250 per hour.
