1802/1 $5 AU58 NGC. B. 2-H and I, Mille
1802/1<$5> AU58 NGC. B. 2-H and I, Miller-54, R.4. The variety is identifiable by the final 2 in the date entered mostly right of the underdigit 1, and by a paper-thin extension or spine from a leaf tip to the R in AMERICA. The surfaces are apricot-gold with faint greenish undertones, and retain considerable luster. The design elements are sharply impressed, including strong definition on most of the stars on both sides. Minor softness is noted in the cloud beneath the O of OF and on the eagle's right (left facing) claws and adjacent arrow shafts. The obverse dentilation is relatively strong, while some of the reverse dentils are weak. The motifs are well centered on the planchet, and there are no noticeable adjustment marks. A few minute abrasions and inoffensive pinscratch-like marks on each side are mentioned solely for accuracy, and clash marks are visible around Liberty's ear.
