1802/1 $2 1/2 AU50 PCGS. Bass-3007, R.4. This green-gold survivor is uncommonly well preserved for the grade with no sizeable abrasions. There are, nonetheless, a few wispy circulation marks on the obverse, but the reverse appears to be quite a bit smoother. As is typical for both the issue and the type, this coin is unevenly struck with some softness of detail here and there which is most readily evident in the center of the reverse where the eagle's head and neck are indistinct. All 1802-dated Quarter Eagles are 1802/1 overdates. Survivors of this 3,035-piece delivery are among the most plentiful Capped Bust Right Quarter Eagles in today's market, but they are still rare when viewed in the wider context of the hobby. From The Collection of Dennis Ridings.
