1802/1 $2 1/2 --Cleaned--ANACS. AU Details, Net XF40. Breen-6118, BD-3, R.5. The Guide Book reports a mintage of 3,035 pieces, yet three die marriages are known. They likely represent three separated days of production, rather than the replacement of dies due to failure. Breen states 423 pieces were "coined in 1803 from 1802-dated dies."
The present coin has a slightly bright obverse field, but the surfaces have retoned in yellow-gold and rose-red. The centers are typically impressed, but much of the design is crisp. Substantial luster remains.
From The Casa Becca del Norté Collection.

Coin Engraver: Robert Scot

Shipping: Coins & Currency (view shipping information)
