1802/1 $1 Wide Date AU58 NGC. B-9, BB-235, R.5. A small diagonal die chip is about centered between the B in LIBERTY and the tip of the hair curl. A stunning example and perhaps finest known for the variety. The B-9 was first discovered by M.H. Bolender in 1950. He had already completed the plates for the first edition of his reference, but had not completed the text. Therefore, he was able to describe the variety but unable to illustrate it. In nearly 60 years since its discovery, quite a few have been found, and it is now rated just R.5, with 50 or 60 pieces known. The surfaces are fully natural gray-brown with darker steel on the devices. Only a trace of wear is visible.

Coin Engraver: Robert Scot

Shipping: Coins & Currency (view shipping information)
