Sharpness near EF40 with myriad fine scratches covering the portrait and much of the reverse, but only those on the neck are visible without the aid of a glass. In adition, the surfaces show uniform very fine granularity under the rather glossy dark steel brown patina. The date and legends are bold and the overdate is strong. The spoiled large cent undertype is evident at the F in OF where the undertype second "S" of STATES is clearly visible. Faint evidence of the adjacent TE can also be made out with some effort, and an arc of dentils from the large cent show in the wreath under OF A. E-MDS, Manley state 2.0.
