1801 S-215 R4+ PCGS graded MS61 BrownLustrous light steel brown with slightly faded mint red in some of the protected areas on the obverse. The surfaces are satiny and this cent has outstanding eye appeal. Would rate a higher grade but there are microscopic ticks in the obverse fields, none visible to the unaided eye but too many to ignore at this grade level. E-MDS, Breen state II, with sharp die clashmarks on both sides and obvious swelling left of the lower curls. A beautiful cent. Graded AU55 and CC#2 in the Bland census. Noyes says MS63 Choice and tied for CC#1, his photo #20568. Our grade is MS62. The folks at PCGS missed on this one in our opinion. This is the plate coin for the variety in the 1991 Noyes reference.Certificate Number: 36242.61/61275947Pedigree: Ex George S. Lockwood-University of Michigan, Joseph Lepczyk 7/1984:75-Robert E.
