<B>1801 S$1 Fine 12 PCGS.</B></I> B-4, BB-214, R.4. Die State III. First 1 nearly touches curl, second 1 distant from bust; leaf below center of I. This obverse is sometimes called the Close Date, although both obverse dies have approximately the same size date. All four varieties dated 1801 are elusive, and the B-4 die combination is scarcer than the others. A tiny reverse die crack extends inward from the border right of the final S, apparently an unusual feature that is only seen on terminal die state examples of the variety.
