1801<S$1> B-3, BB-213, R.3. AU50 NGC. Star 8 close to Y, star 13 distant from bust; Right foot of all Ts missing on reverse. Reiver die state a. Bowers-Borckardt die state III. This is the Reiver plate coin for the obverse and reverse of this variety. A highly desirable example of this variety and date, with some luster in the fields and a decent strike for this date. The coin is bright silver with a touch of peripheral gold starting to form. The surfaces are clean and attractive, and have no problematic nicks or scratches. This is the third and final usage of this obverse die, which still shows minor rust near stars eleven and twelve, and the horizontal die crack can be found left of the base of the first 1 in the date. No clash marks are seen on the obverse, but extensive clashing is found on the reverse die from Liberty's drapery and chest. The reverse die was engraved with a broken T punch where the right base serif was missing, and this punch was also used on the 1802 B-6, BB-241 obverse die. Apparently a new letter punch was obtained as these are the only times this broken letter punch was used to engrave Bust dollar dies.
No provenance information was included. Envelope Included.
