1801<H10C> V-1 and V-2, LM-2, R.4. Reiver state f. VF35 NGC. Medium gray and pleasing for the surfaces and eye appeal. The obverse die has been removed from the press and severely lapped, removing the heavy die crack down through the right side of the Y in LIBERTY to star twelve. How the Philadelphia Mint employees were able to remove the die crack is simply incredible, as seen from the previous coin, and this present example is the bridge coin which links the old V-1 and V-2 varieties together. The obverse has cracked again, with a crack below Liberty's bust and another down the right side of the T in LIBERTY. This die state was known as V-2 previously. It is remarkable that the Philadelphia Mint employees were able to virtually efface the entire die crack through the right field and continue striking coins with what appears to be a new obverse die.
Ex: Julian Leidman, (July, 1991). Envelope Included.
