1801<50C> XF40 NGC. O-102, High R.4. The scarcer of only two varieties of 1801 Half Dollars, and since O-101 is also elusive, the 1801 is a key date to the Draped Bust, Heraldic Eagle series. The 102 variety is attributed by the left base of the first A in AMERICA being embedded in the wing feathers. Both sides are enveloped in medium intensity mauve-gray patina with sky-blue accents, especially on the reverse. The reverse dentilation is bold, though that on the obverse is incomplete. Liberty's hair is wrongly defined for the grade, and all of the letters in E PLURIBUS UNUM show. A few light to moderate marks are scattered over the obverse. Population: 10 in 40, 43 finer (8/05).
