1801 50C AU50 NGC. O-101, R.3. Only two varieties are known of the 1801 half dollar. A single obverse die was combined with two reverses. The 101 variety is primarily distinguished by the presence of 13 arrows on the reverse, whereas the 102 has only 12. The reverse of 101 also shows several die defect lumps, which perhaps give an indication why this die was retired.
The highpoints of the devices show slight evidence of rub from a brief time in circulation. However, there are no mentionable handling marks on either side. Deeply toned in mottled shades of blue, gray, and rose. A bit softly struck, as expected. At the AU50 level, this piece is just outside the Condition Census.

Coin Engraver: Robert Scot

Shipping: Coins & Currency (view shipping information)
