1801<1C> 3 Errors--Corroded--NCS. VF Details. S-218, High R.5, Die State I. This is an example of the popular "Three Errors" type, so-called because of the engraving mistakes on the reverse. The obverse of this variety is also distinctive, with LIBERTY far to the right, the point of the hair curl under the letter I, rather than its usual position under B. Perhaps 40 to 45 examples of this variety are known, compared to as many as 1,000 examples of the S-219 variety with LIBERTY in the normal position. The actual sharpness is that of an XF coin, if not even better. The surfaces are dark brown with extensive corrosion that is evenly distributed across the surface. EAC 8.
Ex: C.J. Dochkus (12/54); Dr. Charles L. Ruby (Superior, 2/74), lot 565; Fred S.
