<B>1801 $10 MS61 NGC.</B></I> Breen-6843, BD-2, R.2. This is a lustrous example with mottled green-gold and orange coloration on both sides. The obverse field is slightly reflective while the reverse is highly reflective, nearly prooflike in quality. The 1801 BD-2 variety is the single most common variety in the entire series of early U.S. gold eagles from 1795 to 1804. More Mint State examples of this date are available than for any other issue, although the 1799 Large Obverse Stars variety gives this issue a run for its money.
