1800 S$1 VF20 PCGS. B-20, BB-185, R.7. This is the rarest die variety of the year, and it is notable to mention that we would be hard pressed to name more than one specimen that grades above XF45. Bolender's own specimen was called XF40 and may have claims to AU today. Most of the fewer than 12 specimens known are in grades of VF or lower. Perhaps one of the reasons this variety is extremely rare today is that this obverse is similar to that of the 1804 Dollars, and more than one specimen of 1800 B-20 has had its date altered to read 1804. Technically speaking this may push this die marriage to a high Rarity-6 since these specimens are no longer dated 1800. Regardless, opportunities to acquire this extremely rare die marriage are few and far between, and we would not be surprised to see this coin realize $5,000 or more. Light silver-gray patina covers most of each side with pale tan accents over the highpoints and light rose tinting around the design features. A few small abrasions are located in the lower right obverse field and there is a short planchet flaw over the obverse denticles at 9 o'clock. From the Albany Collection.
