1800<S$1> Normal Dies. B-4, BB-186, R.4. AU55 NGC. Digit 8 leans right; T of UNITED doubled below base. Reiver die state a. Bowers-Borckardt die state II. Dark steel gray and attractive, with a few patches of light green in the fields. The strike is very sharp on all the devices save for the right wing and a couple of the clouds above, and this area is opposite Liberty's bust, and is always found poorly struck. Examination of the surfaces will note a scratch crossing Liberty's neck into the field, and another jagged scratch down from the E of LIBERTY which resides in the field above her hair. Two nicks are found below her ear. On the reverse there is a similar scratch at the top of the star field. In sum, these scratches are present, but old and toned over and don't detract significantly. One minor rim bump is found above the A of STATES.
This is a middle die state for this variety, with a well developed die crack through the left side of 1 which apparently curls up through Liberty (not seen on the present example on her neck) and curves over to the inner point of the twelfth star. Another fainter die crack is seen from below the first 0, up through the second 0 in the date, Liberty's drapery and the last three stars. Another faint crack is seen from the rim near the first star up into the second star to the outer point.
Ex: Stack's W.
