1800<S$1> Normal Dies. B-13, BB-193, R.3--Improperly Cleaned--NCS. VF Details. Stars 1, 7, 8, and 13 consecutively closer to hair, L, Y, drapery; Cloud space below upright of E, stars 4, 5, 6 do not touch clouds. Toned with silvery-gray hues with traces of luster in the protected areas, but no significant cleaning evidence is noted. Reiver die state d. Bowers-Borckardt die state IV. Mottled light silver to gray in color, with minimal surface evidence of cleaning. This is a fairly late die state, with extensive reverse clash marks, and the obverse die has started to fail as well. Note the thin die cracks which curl up from the first star to the fourth arcing through the field, and a similar die crack is found arcing through the field to stars eight to eleven. On the reverse, the "spray" of clash marks are strong through the clouds, and look more like a comet trail on this coin. Die swelling is seen over RI in AMERICA which are opposite the obverse star crack on the right. A thin die crack extends from the rim between ME of AMERICA, through the shield to the left claw of the eagle. Strong clash marks from Liberty's curls form a small ring or donut at the base of the center shield lines just above the eagle's tail. This particular coin is identifiable by a rim nick between the last two stars and a small nick on the right side of the second 0 in the date. A very impressive coin for the variety collector which shows advanced die clashing and cracking, and a coin which any specialist will long enjoy.
Ex: Superior's H.
