<B>1800 S$1 Dotted Date VF30 PCGS.</B></I> B-14a, BB-194, R.3. Die State IV. In this late and scarce die state, several cracks are noted on each side. Most notable are the prominent break from the first 0 in the date, up through the top left of the second 0, to the bust; and a crack from ED through the left wing, the lower part of the clouds, and through OF. Bowers' silver dollar <I>Encyclopedia</B></I> notes concerning this variety, "As is the case with the AMERICAI variety, the value of the Dotted Date is enhanced by die flaws, a curious situation from the viewpoint of logic. Ever since Richard S. Yeoman listed it in the <I>Guide Book</B></I> as a 'major variety,' it has been inordinately popular."
