<B>1800 S$1 AMERICAI XF40 PCGS.</B></I> B-19, BB-192, R.2. Die State I. Reiver Die State a. High date, 1 and 0 nearly touch curl and drapery; AMERICAI. There is no trace of the obverse clash marks that are usually seen. However, the small die flaw below star 1 (described by Bowers and Borckardt for Die State II) is clearly visible. Curious raised die file lines are visible below and left of the date. A tiny rim mark is evident over the E of AMERICA, but it is mostly hidden by the holder. Pleasing lilac-gray surfaces with peripheral sea-green and iridescent toning. The AMERICAI reverse is a highly popular <I>Guide Book</B></I> variety. The raised reverse die defect closely duplicates the right edge of the final A, although the curve at the bottom does not appear to be an exact match. The other explanation is a slip of the engraver's hand. A moderate number of higher grade examples of this variety are known.
