1800<S$1> AMERICAI. B-11, BB-191, R.4. VF25 NGC. Wide date, 00 far apart, 8 low; AMERICAI. Reiver die state a. Bowers-Borckardt die state II. This is the Reiver plate coin for the obverse and reverse of this variety. Light silvery-gray with traces of luster in the protected areas, and a hint of peripheral gold. All the devices are well struck, and there are no adjustment marks or rim bumps to distract the eye. Considered quite rare by Bolender, a number of these have turned up since the publication of his book in 1950. Still scarce, and certainly a lot more difficult to obtain than the B-19, BB-192 variety which uses the same AMERICAI reverse die. It is not known if the extra "I" after AMERICA was caused by a die scratch or is a recut A, but the evidence would seem to favor a die scratch.
Ex: Jim Miller (March, 1973). Envelope Included.
