1800<H10C> V-3, LM-2, R.7. Reiver state a.--Bent--NCS. Fine Details. Possibly the Valentine Plate coin in the Quarterman reprint (1975) as there is a small nick on Liberty's cheek which matches that coin from a New Netherlands sale circa 1959. Steel gray and attractive, with a few nicks and marks in the lower left obverse field, and the wear is uneven on the rim near star five to six. This was probably caused by the bend in the planchet which happened early enough that continued circulation caused the uneven wear, thus wearing the dentils flat in that area. The strike is also weak at the central reverse, with the eagle's head and several stars missing, as well as a cloud or two. One of the most difficult varieties to obtain, with perhaps a dozen or so known in all. The most recent John Reich Journal survey noted three specimens, including the present coin with grades of 50, 40 and 20 (Jules grade for the this coin) and this was from late 2001. Perhaps a few more have been discovered since that time but certainly a very rare coin in any grade.
Ex: Jonathan Kern, (March 1989). Envelope Included.
