1800 $5 MS62 PCGS. Breen-6438, BD-5, High R.3. Only two obverse dies were created with the 1800 date, and they are easily recognized by either a Pointed 1 in the date or a Blunt 1 without its top left serif. The Pointed 1 variety, significant enough that it should have its own Guide Book listing, is so rare that few even know of its existence. There are currently only three of four examples of that variety known, and even Harry Bass never acquired one.
The other type, the Blunt 1, is extremely common by comparison with 500 to 700 pieces known in various grades, including the Mint State example offered here. Both sides of this piece are fully brilliant with satiny yellow-gold luster and hints of orange toning. This piece is housed in a first-generation PCGS holder and exhibits excellent aesthetic appeal. It has a crack across the lower reverse, from the left claw, across the lower part of the shield, to the branch.

Shipping: Coins & Currency (view shipping information)
