1800<1C> S-203, B-29, Low R.3--Improperly Cleaned--NCS. XF Details. VF25 EAC. Light to medium olive color with traces of maroon on the obverse. Both sides, and especially the reverse, have splashes of lighter tan color. Additional bright orange color is indicative that this example was cleaned at some time in the past. Two features should be noticed when attributing this variety. First, the obverse has a diagonal cut in the die near the border, about level with Liberty's nose. This is usually always visible, even on lower grade coins. Second, nearly every known example of this variety has extremely heavy clash marks near TATES OF, from Liberty's bust and the date. Although these clash marks appear on this specimen, it is quite an early die state. Bill Noyes recorded two different examples in the Reiver Collection as VF20, but it is not certain which of the three examples in the present sale is the odd piece that Bill did not include in his reference.
Ex: George Ramont (4/8/1973). Envelope Included.
