1800<1C> S-199, B-14, High R.3--Corroded, Scratched--NCS. VF Details. VG10 EAC. An early die state with a faint die crack from ED to the rim, but no other visible die defects other than a few light clash marks. The surfaces are deep steel-blue with considerable reddish patina on the reverse. Both sides have light to moderate porosity distributed across the surfaces, and some old scratches on the obverse blend in with the surrounding surface. While certainly visible, these scratches are not obvious. This is the first use of Breen's obverse 9 (also Sheldon's obverse 9), which has thin bottoms to the 00 in the date. This feature is especially visible at the bottom of the second 0. This obverse die saw extensive use, through many stages of die cracks, and was combined with five different reverse dies to create as many varieties.
Ex: Budd (10/11/1970). Envelope Included.
