1800<1/2 C> C-1, B-1, R.2. Die State 3--Improperly Cleaned--NCS. AU Details. VF30 EAC. Wide date; Single terminal leaves. This example appears to be intermediate between Manley States 3 and 4, meeting all of the requirements for Die State 3 except the die scratch from the left corner of F in HALF, which is now missing. Obverse rim crumbling is visible over LIB, and along the border to about 9 o'clock. Most 1800 Half Cents are struck on rolled copper planchets supplied by Boulton & Watt. A few others, in earlier die states, were struck on cut down Large Cents. This is a lovely example with deep olive-brown surfaces and traces of lighter tan around the devices. Although holdered by NCS as Improperly Cleaned, we are not sure what led them to their conclusion, for we see a wonderful and totally pleasing example of this Half Cent issue.
Ex: Unidentified B.
