18 Size Elgin 14k Pocket Watch with Gold Chain and Working Gun Fob
This great watch is a 14k gold encased size 18 by Elgin National Watch Company. The front of the hunter case is engraved with the initials MR, and the back bears an imprinted circle. The interior of the case front is unmarked, and the rear cover is marked "Warranted/ 14k/ U.S. Assay/ C.W.MFG. CO/ 110935". The cuvet is marked 110935. The dial is white enamel with very faint crazing in one portion, finely double-sunk, with large black roman numerals in the hour chapter. The seconds dial is marked in black Arabic numerakls in 10 second intervals. The hands are blued fleur-de-lis. The face is inscribed "Elgin Nat`l Watch Co." The movement is a 15 jewel full plate in a nickel finish, engraved "B.W. Raymond/ 2779591/ Elgin Ill./ Adjusted". The serial number dates this watch to 1888. Stem wind, lever set. This lot includes a 13" long chain with a T-bar on one end attached alongside a gold gun fob that remarkably loads, cocks, and fires. The chain clasp is marked 14k. The plating is beginning to wear away in some small sections of the 1.76 troy ounce chain.
