17th century Germanic Wheelock carbine of good form showing nice quality. The carbine has an interesting makers mark of initials with what may be a man holding a sword in a turban. Approximately 43 ½” overall with 27 ½” barrel of60 caliber rifled. The lock is lightly floral engraved with a bird on the top jaw of the hammer. The lock shows an enclosed wheel which places the date after about 1650. The interior of the lock is nicely engraved and chain with small partscomplete. The main spring shows superb quality and is very thick for tension. The metal shows a light gray patina with just slight and normal aging. The stock is very good with minor imperfection and old set back to fore end cap byforming the wood where cap was lost or removed. Some small losses around the rear of the lock plate. The stock shows some minor but good quality carving. A very descent carbine by a better than average maker. The lock interior is 1st class.Est.: $2,750-$5,500.
