<table width="100%" border="0" cellspacing="0" cellpadding="4"><tr><td><em> I FOUND THIS WONDERFUL GESSOED CARVING IN SALZBURG, AUSTRIA MANY YEARS AGO. </em></td></tr><tr> <td width="100%"> A truly glorious 17th c. piece of Austrian religious folkart,
from a church near
Salzburg, Austria, the birthplace of Mozart. Austrian
churches of that period were filled with grand displays of
beautifully carved and gorgeously decorated works of art.
This Leuchterengel was one of a group of similar angels. <p>
Each carved angel held a
candle on her head, hence the name - "Leuchter (meaning
light), and engel (meaning angel). The delightfully cheerful
pose of the angel and the beauty of the bower of roses on
her head, the gentle position of the head and outstretched
hand, holding the bower on her head, all add up to a
sculpture that demands to be looked at
very closely.<p> Condition: There has been some
professional
restoration to stabilize the thick paint and prevent more
paint from flaking off. <p> Whether viewed as a religious
object, or cherished as a lovely piece of 17th c. folkart, this
piece is really a treasure! </td></tr><tr> <td> </td></tr><tr> <td>Reference #: A130</td></tr><tr><td>Condition:The "angel of light" is in reasonably good condition considering age. </td></tr><tr><td>Year:17th century</td></tr><tr><td>Country:AUSTRIA</td></tr><tr><td>Maker:UNKNOWN</td></tr><tr><td>Height:13</td></tr><tr><td>Depth:4</td></tr><tr><td>Width:4</td></tr><tr><td>Weight:5</td></tr><tr><td>Title:17th c.
