17th Century Nuremberg Style Wheellock Rifle, approx. .50 cal., 37-1/2'' half-round half-octagon barrel with turned collar at junction, bright finish, full length European stock, with no markings. Rear sight is steel dovetailed into the barrel; front sight is brass dovetailed near the muzzle. Condition is fine as extensively cleaned. This rifle is void of markings or adornment which may be a result of the cleaning to bright. Stock appears to be made in two pieces, extensively incised, with a floral motif and stags grazing on the cheekpiece. Patch box appears to be original to the rifle and is inlaid with bone, as is the muzzle. Cleaning rod is missing as are the attaching thimbles. Rear triggerguard mounting screw has been replaced with a nail. Double set trigger plate has been secured with a replacement screw. There is what appears to be a museum tag mounted behind the triggerguard which is marked ''HL/175''. Est.: $3,750-$5,000. (Antique)
