<td width="100%">
This is miniature potrait of King Charles 1 who lost his head at the instigation of Oliver Cromwell in 1649.

The King is wearing a black doublet with white decorations with white at his neck with the Ribbon of the Order of the Garter.
It would appear that the painting is oil on card.

We believe that this miniature was painted shortly after the restoration of Charles II. The style is not romanticcas typified of later examples.

The miniature was reframed in the 19th -early 20th century and has an incorrect identification to the rear, claiming that it is James 1.

The actual measurements of the frame are 5.5 inches by 6.25 inches. The gilt surrounded central portion is 3.5 by 3 inches, while the actual portrait is1.5 inches by 2 inches. Looks as though the painting is mounted on a gold leaf surround.
