17th Century Germanic Swept Hilt Rapier
Blade is 41" long, with the dished ricasso protected by the guard and a single fuller on each side of the blade, which are marked "MVNSTEN" and "ANEREIS". A family of smiths by the name of Munsten operated out of Solingen, Germany in the late 16th and 17th Centuries. The guard is of the "pappenheimer" style, with a pair of ventilated discs inset into siderings at the edge of the ricasso, two supporting hilt arms, a pair of additional siderings extending downwards with dragon head accents, from which a pair of diagonal counterguards extend to join the knuckleguard, which also has a dragon motif, and a pair of straight quillions, 9 3/4" from tip to tip. Grip is wire wrapped, with woven wire accents at the top and bottom, and the ball pommel is decorated with chiseled floral designs and animal scenes.

Condition: Fine, with scattered pitting and a mixed bright gray patina overall. The grip wrap is a little loose, and a small bend to the right is visible in the blade near the tip, otherwise the fit and quality are both good.
