Featured in this lot is this bronze and silver inlay Japanese Katana sword Tsuba circa 17th-18th Century. A Tsuba is a Japanese sword guard, typically elaborately decorated and made of steel or bronze, sometimes inlaid with precious metals such as silver or gold. The Tsuba features a wonderfully and professionally crafted bronze construction and is decorated with a mandarin duck on both sides. One side shows the mandarin duck looking for food in the water, while the opposite side shows the duck standing on the shore line under a tree branch with flowers. The duck and flowers on the tree branch are silver inlay. No makers mark is present on the tsuba. The piece shows good condition overall with no signs of damage present. It measures 3 3/16" L x 3" W x 1/4" D and weighs 191.6 grams. It is set in a small display case measuring 6 1/8" L x 5 3/16" W x 3/4" D.
