1799 S$1 XF45 PCGS. B-19, BB-155, R.5. Die State IV. Curl centered below right edge of E; short bar connects clouds 4 and 5. Only two obverse dies have this particular relationship between the high curl and the letter E, and these dies were each used with two reverse dies. B-14 has a perfect U in UNITED, and a leaf point below the center of I. B-18 has a leaf point under the left upright of I. B-19 also has a leaf point below the left upright of I, and also has a short horizontal bar in the clouds below the E of STATES. B-22 has a broken left serif to U in UNITED. Dusky grayish-brown surfaces with splashes of darker toning with faint bluish verdigris. Both sides have numerous tiny surface nicks.
Many collectors and investors who have entered the market over the past decade have been programmed to purchase Mint State or proof coins of high numeric grades, especially with the advances of the registry programs started by the various grading services. While such programs are certainly wonderful for Morgan dollars or Lincoln cents, few collectors of early silver dollars or other 18th and early 19th century coins can afford such high-level pieces. There are many VF, XF, and AU grade coins available to collectors today, and these pieces will almost certainly prove to be bargains a few years from now. Just a year ago we sold the Jules Reiver collection, and today many collectors wish they had bought many more coins. In January 2008, we expect to hear from others who comment that they should have been more aggressive buying from the Luebke collection.
Ex: eBay (1/2006).
From The William Luebke Collection.

Shipping: Coin/Currency (view shipping information)
