Star 12 on the reverse is too close to the eagle's beak with a point appearing to touch both the upper and lower beaks. The olive branch has extremely large berries, the largest of any reverse die used in 1799. The obverse is another of the workhorse dies in early U.S. coinage, incorporated with six different reverse dies. The six varieties were produced in the following order: B-7, B-5, B-11, B-6, B-10, and B-17. The obverse has developed a fine die crack from stars 10 through 13, and remains stable throughout the production of this die marriage, being retired from service after the B-17 dollars were coined, although it appears that it may still have had some life. The reverse has a crack through UNITED and ST. Pleasing pewter-gray color in the fields with slightly deeper gray near the borders. Both sides have slightly lighter color on the devices. Minor verdigris is visible around certain reverse devices.
