1799<S$1> Normal Date. B-5, BB-157, R.3. XF40 NGC. Stars 1, 13 distant, star 7 close, star 8 closest; Defective U, star 13 high above scroll, points to left serif of U. Reiver die state d. Bowers-Borckardt die state IV. Toned with slightly mottled gold and gray, with a splash of darker hues on Liberty's shoulder and on the right wing of the eagle. A later die state with the crack extending through UNITED STATES and MERI. Bolender mentions in his B-5a die state a die crack down from the lower left corner of E of LIBERTY, not seen on this example, but there is a very faint crack below the first star towards the third curl up from the bottom. This coin is sharply struck throughout and free of distracting nicks, scratches or bumps. Identifiable by a minor scrape on the F of OF and a shallow depressed line in the middle of Liberty's neck into the field. A well balanced coin to represent the variety.
Ex: John Haugh (July, 1998). Envelope Included.
