This obverse die was only used once, to strike 1799 B-12, BB-160, and a close examination of the obverse of this piece shows the probable reason. There are innumerable die breaks indicating that the die was well on its way to shattering. Although difficult to see on this coin (as it is in an ANACS holder), there is a rim break or cud that extends from between star 1 and 2 to star 4. The last four stars on the right are affected by a noticeable bulge, created by die sinking in this area. The reverse is the "No Berries Reverse," which is also shared with 1799 B-11, BB-161. Both sides have pleasing violet-gray color in the fields with light silver devices. Deeper peripheral iridescence adds to the eye appeal.
