1799 S$1 No Berries MS63 PCGS. B-12a, BB-160, R.3. Die
1799 S$1 No Berries MS63 PCGS. B-12a, BB-160, R.3. Die State III per the Bowers Silver Dollar Encyclopedia. The obverse has several prominent die cracks, and other lighter cracks, but those of the latest die state have not yet made an appearance. This example is one of two die marriages with the No Berries reverse die. This reverse actually had berries at one time, but extensive die lapping intended to remove clash marks, die cracks, and other defects actually removed the berries and slightly weakened other details in the process.
A Select Mint State example, this lovely dollar has extremely sharp design details in nearly all areas, with weakness noted only among a few stars at the right side of the constellation on the reverse. It is a well-centered impression with full obverse and reverse border details. The obverse has frosty luster under lovely pale lilac and ivory color, with deeper gray-brown and iridescent toning at the borders. The reverse has satiny luster with considerable gold color, accented by similar gray-brown and iridescent toning, as well as slight reflectivity. Although the No Berries reverse is not listed as a separate variety in the current Guide Book, it is one of several distinctive varieties that we feel should be included among listings in that reference. When such an entry is added (if it is added), this coin will become even more desirable than it is now. Population: 8 in 63, 14 finer (11/06). The PCGS population includes all varieties of the 1799 Normal Date silver dollar.
From The Essex Palm Collection.

Shipping: Coin/Currency (view shipping information)
