A small blemish is visible beneath the tip of Liberty's nose, but we are unable to tell whether this is on the surface or in the surface. Both sides have the usual scattered nicks and tiny dents. Possibly a Condition Census example. This variety is surprisingly difficult to locate, especially in higher grades. Bill Luebke related that this was the last 1799 variety that he acquired for his collection.<BR> Take a careful look at the upper left serif of the U in UNITED. It has an angular depression that matches the shape of the broken U from two other reverse dies. This observation tells us that this reverse die was engraved before either of the Defective U reverse dies, although that does not necessarily confirm the actual order of use for these dies.
