Most people are surprised to learn that there are six different overdates in the early dollar series. These include a single 1799/8 obverse and five different 1802/1 obverse dies. Just one obverse die was overdated in 1799, but it was combined with three different reverse dies. The overdate features are prominently visible without magnification; this is one of the "naked-eye" varieties that are always so popular with collectors. The reverse of this example has heavy die flaws above and along the left side of I in AMERICA. Additional reverse die cracks are noted. Pleasing gray-brown surfaces with lighter silver-gray on the reverse devices. The usual minor surface marks are evident, including a few small rim bruises on each side.
