The first 9 in the date is widely recut and strong remnants of an underlying 8 beneath the second 9 unmistakably identify this impressive Mint State dollar as an overdate. The reverse can be readily attributed by the die cracks through STATES OF and heavy die crumbling between R and I in AMERICA. Additional die flaws can be found in the vicinity of RT in LIBERTY on the obverse. We also notice traces of buckling near the base of the portrait as mentioned on the previous offering, but not enough to suggest a terminal die state. The surfaces are satiny and generally untoned, although traces of reddish-brown color cling to the devices.
