1799<$5> Small Stars Reverse--Improperly Cleaned--NCS. AU Details. Breen-6433, BD-1, High R.5. This very rare variety is easily attributed by the reverse die crack that travels from the eagle's beak through the two center stars, upward to the rim at 1 o'clock between STATES and OF. The three lowest stars above UNUM are arranged in a triangular fashion. On the obverse stars 9 and 10 have extra spines, and a heavy die crack joins stars 10 through 13. The unnaturally bright surfaces appear as though they were wiped with a jeweler's cloth, but this remains a nonetheless rare and important piece of early American coinage. Heavy clash marks are noted on the reverse above the arrowheads, the imprint of the rear of Liberty's cap. Only moderate wear and light field chatter is noted, more so on the reverse, with much detail remaining.
