Rare letter written by Viscount Kilwarden from Dublin dated the 5th of March 1799 to a friend about financial affairs, payment of rent in Wickow after the 1798 Rebellion and describing his money problems as "a calamity that you suffer in common with the inhabitants of this miserable country". During the Robert Emmet 1803 Rebellion Viscount Kilwarden, then Lord Chief Justice of Ireland, was travelling to Dublin when his carriage was stopped by rebels. On being recognised he was attacked and killed along with his nephew.
