Key identifiers for this variety are: large obverse stars (this is key, as one of only two varieties of 1799 with large stars); leaf touches I in AMERICA at its lower right; the lowest berry is under the right foot of the last A in AMERICA; and the lower beak of the eagle touches the star point and the upper beak nearly gets another one, as it "extends" to the lower arm of the star touching the lower beak.<BR> The specimen offered in this lot displays bright yellow-gold surfaces that show ample luster residing in the recessed areas. Sharp definition is noted on the design features that are well centered on the planchet, and the dentilation is strong on both sides. Light hairlines are noted on both faces, but are not terribly offensive. Likewise, the few light tooling marks in the right obverse field are not that distracting.
