<B>1799 $10 Small Stars Obverse--Cleaned, Rim Damage--ANACS. AU55 Details.</B></I> Irregular Date, Small Stars, Breen-6840, Taraszka-20, BD-8, R.5. This scarce variety is attributed by the 17 of the date tilted far right, the 7 higher than the 1, reverse star 12 touching upper beak and also the scroll with two points. John Dannreuther and Harry Bass, in their book <I>Early U.S. Gold Varieties</B></I>, estimate 45 to 55 examples of this variety to be known. Bright reddish-gold surfaces are lightly hairlined, and the rim damage at 3 o'clock on the obverse is hardly noticeable within the holder. The design elements are well struck, and there is an even distribution of minute marks over the obverse.
