<B>1799 $10 Small Stars Obverse AU50 NGC.</B></I> BD-8, R.5. This rare variety is attributed by the evenly spaced 17 in the date, but tilted far right, especially the 7, which is also higher than the 1; the point of star 12 touching the upper beak and also the scroll with two points, and star 13 touching the scroll. John Dannreuther and Harry Bass, in their <I>Early U.S. Gold Varieties</B></I> book, estimate 44-55 known pieces.<BR> Peach-gold surfaces display splashes of purplish coloration, especially on the reverse, of this AU50 example. The design elements show fairly good definition, except for coalescence of some of the horizontal lines in the shield.
