1799$1 MS62 PCGS. B-21, BB-169, High R.2. Die State IV. The widely repunched second obverse star and die lumps (as produced) below the first A in AMERICA attribute the variety. In his 1993 reference Silver Dollars & Trade Dollars of the United States, noted numismatic author Q. David Bowers opined for Bolender-21, "AU and finer coins are rare," and estimates a total Mint State population of 3 to 6 pieces, none above MS63. This bold example has gentle chestnut color on the obverse. The reverse is essentially untoned. Refreshingly unabraded, the grade is limited only its pervasive but slightly diminished satin luster. For pedigree purposes, a small U-shaped lintmark (as made) is noted northwest of the star nearest the eagle's beak. Lot:7327
