1798 S-184 R2 Small 8, Style II Hair PCGS graded AU58
Frosty medium olive brown and steel. The surfaces are lustrous and nearly flawless and this cent has great eye appeal. Look choice mint state but there is a hint of rub on the highest points of the devices. The only notable marks are some tiny pre-striking planchet chips at OF due to a weak strike in that area (opposite the bust tip). M-LDS, Breen state III. There is a fine double profile on the chin and neck. Called AU55 and tied for CC#4 in the Bland census (but graded MS60 by him in 1971). Noyes says AU50 and tied for CC#3, his photo #24083. Our grade is AU55. The attribution and Ralls provenance are shown on the PCGS label. (The reverse of the slab is badly scuffed.)
